Lee ‘INnoVation’ Shin Hyung has left Team Acer. After a solid year on a foreign team, the 21-year-old Korean Terran has decided to return to a KeSPA team in order to achieve his dreams of another GSL title.
We were excited and honoured to hear that INnoVation wanted to play for our team, but we knew that the move brought challenges for both parties. He was young, 20 years old, and had been a part of the KeSPA environment for five years beforehand. He wanted to transition to a foreign team, attend more foreign tournaments and adopt a less regimented practice style – but these were all big differences from what he was used to.
While INnoVation brought great results for Team Acer in team leagues, he wasn’t satisfied with his performance in individual leagues – he was hungry for another trophy, and finishing a premiere tournament in the top four or top eight didn’t meet his high expectations.
After losing in the early rounds of Code S, he decided to focus on Korea and attend fewer foreign tournaments. That meant he spent less time traveling, and more time practicing, but he still found it harder to practice outside of the more regimented KeSPA team houses.
For this reason, INnoVation and the team came to a mutual agreement that it would be better for him to return to that environment, and leave Team Acer. We don’t want to stand in the way of his dreams just so we can see him in more foreign tournaments.
We part ways as friends, and we will remember our time with INnoVation fondly. He is a kind and polite person, a true professional and of course a world-class StarCraft 2 player. We wish INnoVation the very best for the future, and we hope that he’ll attain his goal of another GSL Code S championship!
